MATCHED GIVING

Help One Thousand Villages raise $10,000 on Giving Tuesday Nov. 27

On Nov. 27 One Thousand Villages will celebrate Giving Tuesday by asking donors to support our programs in villages and schools in northeast Thailand. Strong relationships with communities and schools are an essential part of our mission. As one of the very few organisations building connections with schools and communities in poor rural areas, raising funds to support education campaigns and sustainable livelihood enterprises is essential in the fight against commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking in Southeast Asia.

This year,  One Thousand Villages will receive a matching donation when any individual donates on #GivingTuesday. We are incredibly inspired by the way the #GivingTuesday community has embraced this concept for a worldwide movement. We feel energised and encouraged by the generosity and vision of people who contribute and share.

Lasting relationships with schools and communities are essential to support children and families in these rural areas. Schools become central locations where people come together to share skills, experience and information. Families are better supported and children learn more and develop skills and knowledge. We focus on helping people understand the root causes of trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation and building new support networks, which is critical in prevention.

We have been supporting more and more children and youth this year, especially in Nakhon Phanom province and along the Mekong River border with Laos, and many have a history of sexual physical abuse. Unfortunately many teens have a variety of problems including substance abuse, pregnancy, and STIs. One Thousand Villages is promoting collaboration with schools and communities to address the challenges and expand support to prevent sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation.
