On March 28, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar, causing many casualties. Over 1 million people, including One Thousand Villages’ staff, are affected. The earthquake damaged infrastructure and services severely.
The disaster further compounds the distress and uncertainty in communities already struggling with the consequences of conflict and displacement. Prior to the earthquake, 20 million individuals required humanitarian assistance, including 6.3 million children and 15.2 million who were food insecure. The humanitarian efforts in Myanmar have been severely impacted by a decrease in global funding in 2025, which has disrupted crucial aid to the most vulnerable communities.
Your immediate support is essential to protect and provide for the most vulnerable, now more than ever.
How One Thousand Villages is responding
Our local staff and long-standing partners are coming together to provide crucial aid to those affected by the disaster. Many are currently without proper shelter, so we are focusing on providing essential items such as:
- Emergency food and water
- Mosquito nets
- Basic medical care, including hygiene and dignity kits for women
- Critical services through health clinics and workers
