ABOUT
One Thousand Villages is working in Thailand and across the Greater Mekong Sub-region. We create resources and opportunities for girls and women to improve their lives. Our focus is improving education, as well as developing skills and support to build confidence and opportunities. The result is a growing generation of empowered young women, taking control of their lives and their futures.
WHY THE MEKONG?
The Mekong region is a place of great complexity and is often misunderstood. Millions are impacted by extreme poverty and inequality, while civil war and political unrest bring widespread suffering and destroy communities.
Our Vision
A world without poverty where girls have access to resources and opportunities to improve their lives. That’s our vision!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN
It’s crazy to think that a trip to Thailand thirty years ago to see World Vision’s work in slums and villages would turn into a full-blown commitment to helping in Southeast Asia. I was already knee-deep in ministry work. But seeing the poverty and exploitation of young girls stirred something deep within me. I started teaming up with incredible organisations like World Vision, Tear Australia, and many others across Australia, Thailand, Burma, and Cambodia. I couldn’t just stand by and watch people suffer. Who would’ve guessed that a simple trip could completely alter the course of my life?
I’ve been on the move non-stop since then. Bouncing around in trucks from big cities to remote villages. Delivering much-needed aid deep in the jungles of Burma. Crossing rivers in canoes, and working on countless projects and partnerships. There’s always corruption, criminal groups, and more work to do. Despite all the challenges, I’ve never lost faith in our mission. I know I’m meant to help and I’m committed to doing my best to make that happen. For me, that means following Jesus’ example and showing love to those who need it most. This is what keeps me going when I’m unsure.
Just like when I first arrived, we’re still helping families with kids, focusing on the girls who face the highest risk. It’s not an easy job, but it’s a mission that truly matters.

We’ve done some pretty extraordinary things over the years. From crafting prosthetic limbs for landmine survivors to installing irrigation systems on farms, building homes and toilets, implementing water purification projects, starting businesses, and running countless education programs in villages and schools.
