COVID-19

Dear fiends,

COVID-19 is disrupting individuals, families and communities around the world, so these are, without doubt, particularly challenging times. First and foremost, we pray that you and your family are healthy and safe.

Next, I wanted to give you a brief update on our status and the challenges we are facing in Thailand. Thailand’s numbers (COVID-19) are rising sharply and the government is correct in taking drastic but necessary measures to limit the spread of the disease. Measures taken to control the spread of the disease will necessarily impact upon people of all backgrounds, some more than others.

We are passionately committed to protecting those who are most vulnerable to trafficking and sexual exploitation. Crucially, poor families living in remote areas, those with chronic health conditions, low income earners, stateless and migrants have limited access to healthcare. We recognise the need to move quickly to support the most vulnerable in this crisis. We are working with a wide range of community leaders, schools and organisations and focusing on community-based responses that will support the health and economic well-being of the most vulnerable children and families.

We are running on fumes. It is imperative that we find donations in the coming weeks. Like many small organisations, we run on passion, hard work, goodwill and fumes!

So, if you haven’t already, make sure you go over to the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/onethousandvillages/ and see what we are doing. Also, if you want to help go the website https://www.onethousandvillages.org/donation/ and you can donate.

Everyone knows that this is a very difficult challenge. We will do everything we can to support people who depend on us.

While coronavirus temporarily limits some of our freedoms, we should remember that many communities less fortunate than us are going through this too and they are struggling more than anyone.

We are deeply concerned about the severe impact of the virus on people living in remote areas. Coronavirus is a goldmine for recruiters. Job losses will be unlike anything we have ever seen before. Looking further ahead, thousands will end up in a situation of sexual exploitation.

While there is a lot of information being shared right now, it can be hard to keep track of everything happening. Please pray about supporting One Thousand Villages and making a monthly donation.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Blessings,

Justin Whitecross
