Unique educational experience that goes beyond the classroom.
Connect with schools in remote rural areas in Thailand and across the Mekong region

Our ‘Changing Lives, One School at a Time Program’ connects schools in Australia with schools in remote rural areas in Thailand and the Mekong region, fostering cultural exchange and creating lasting bonds between students from different backgrounds. Students broaden their horizons, develop empathy, and build connections.
The experience
The program offers students a unique educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. By engaging with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, students have the chance to broaden their horizons and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them. Through collaborative projects and interactive activities, students develop empathy, compassion, and a sense of global citizenship that will stay with them long after the program has ended.
What can students expect from the program?
Students can expect a transformative journey that will challenge their preconceived notions and expand their worldview. By working together with their peers from Thailand and the Mekong region, students will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures, traditions, and ways of life. Through virtual exchanges and various learning activities, students will develop meaningful connections that transcend borders and make a positive impact on the lives of others.
How does the program benefit underserved communities?
The program goes beyond cultural exchange – it aims to make a real difference in the lives of impoverished children and families by providing resources, support, and opportunities. Partnering with remote rural schools, the program helps disadvantaged students connect with peers, learn new skills, and broaden horizons.

We’re all part of one big world, linked together, and everyone’s life is important.
We believe every child’s life is important no matter where they are, whether in Brisbane, Adelaide, or a village in Thailand. All the children in our programs are vulnerable, and while we can’t solve every issue, we can’t just sit back and do nothing.
We have 35 schools participating in Thailand. Myanmar schools can’t join the program right now due to military conflicts and safety concerns. We have four schools on the Cambodia border and two schools on the Lao border in northeast Thailand.
One Thousand Villages was founded in 2002. Our founder and CEO started in Thailand way back in 1995. Want to chat with Justin?
